My final composition embodies qualities similar to those of Joan Miro's works. I plan to use his practice of surrealism to create my own composition similar to his. I am going to use a similar color palette to Miro's, consisting of the primary colors, as well as green and black. I am going to use the simple, unmodified color of the paint as my underpainting, then I am going to make different variations of each color to provide depth to my painting. I am going to make an abstract shape consisting of circles and ovals and color each individual shape within the master one a different color, alternating between the 5 main colors on my color palette. I will leave the background white, and I still am deciding if I want to paint it white or leave it as the original color of the canvas, but I am leaning towards painting it. Miro tends to have the background of his paintings white as well, so I am molding my final work off of his habits. Executed successfully, these shapes and colors will embody the practices and compositions of Miro, which is my goal for the project. In studying my artist, I used the Artist's Habit of Mind to further my understanding of Joan Miro. I engaged and persisted by studying his relevance and importance in the outside world, and focusing on how he portrayed life experiences in his works, and how he was reflected in the art world. I also envisioned my final composition prior to my execution of it so I could get a clearer sense of my goal and start further developing my ideas. I expressed Joan Miro's vision of surrealism and a little bit of abstract ideas in my final composition and made sure to incorporate his view of the surrealist movement. I observed Miro's process and works in order to produce my own. I began to understand the art world by studying Joan Miro's role in it. These Artist Habits of Mind allowed me to further expand my understanding of Joan Miro, the world he lived in, the role he played in the art world, and his process in order to produce my own works similar to
his.
Here is the outline of my final project using the habits of Joan Miro:
Here are my sketches leading up to the execution of the final project, playing around with shape and color in trying to find the combinations for my final.
